Our Endeavors to be Healthy!

The past few months have proven to be some of the most difficult months in a long time! One of the areas of difficulty has been our health. Jess was sick with C-diff for the entire month of December and the beginning of January. The best way to treat C-diff is with an antibiotic called Flagyl. She was on it for about 15 days. This antibiotic was AWFUL and INTENSE to say the least. The greatest side effect is severe nausea. In order to alleviate some of the nausea, Jess had to take Zofran. This drug was her saving grace! She would take these pretty much every time she had to take the antibiotic. However, a few days into the antibiotic, she ran out of Zofran. This was particularly bad because all of the doctors offices were closed due to the Boiling Springs blizzard! She was devastated to not have more Zofran (not to mention it was her birthday!). So, I called my best doctor friend to save the day. He was able to call in a prescription to our local pharmacy within minutes. When I brought the medicine home to Jess, I wrapped it up and gave it to her as a surprise gift. After she cried a bit, she told me it was the best birthday present that she had received all day!

All that to say, we are healthy now and looking forward to staying healthy! We will begin making daily menus again (after about a 2 month hiatus). We've found making meal menus keep us from eating junk food just because we didn't plan. It also keeps us from spending extra money at the grocery store! If you have any great healthy meals that we should try, we'd love your input! We also found out that Jess' job allows us to use the Gardner-Webb University gym. We plan to exercise regularly again as well. Justin enjoys running outside a lot, but Jess would much rather use a gym to work out. So, this is a huge blessing to have a gym to use for free! Finally, we are going to do a Whole Body Cleanse! We found a good option at the Vitamin Shoppe that includes all kinds of crazy organic detoxifiers and cleansers while also adding good probiotics back into the body. Justin says this seems a little "earthy" or "hippie" to do, but we are both eager to do a good detox and get all this junk out of our bodies! We'll give you an update sometime soon about how we're progressing!

Even though the past few months have been difficult (we'll explain more soon), we have also experienced the immense love and grace of God in so many ways. We praise God for his purpose and timing. We are incredibly blessed to have some answers for Jess' sickness and also blessed that she is cleared from any traces of C-diff in her system! As always, we invite you praise God with us for Jess' health, and we would appreciate your prayers, specifically your prayers for our health.

  2. If you do a whole body cleanse, make sure to not do a colon cleanse.

I would advise you to be very wary and cautious of full body cleansers. In your body you have good a bad bacterial flora. Detoxifiers do not differentiate between the two and can "cleanse" your body of your necessary flora. There's an unfortunate tale of a woman who did a full body cleanse and colon cleanse and lost all of her good bacterial flora in her digestive tract. Needless to say, without flora one can't digest. To remedy this problem, the doctor had to take flora from her husband's fecal matter and insert it insider her. Problem solved.

I'd just eat a lot of fruit and go for a run if I were you guys.
